When leaving a phone message or when e-mailing the Shelter, always provide YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER OR E-MAIL ADDRESS, LOCATION (CITY, STATE), DATE/TIME YOU CALLED, AND A SHORT SUMMARY OF YOUR QUESTION.

Please, no "Pet Dumping" or unexpected "Drop-offs". Abandoning a pet outside the Animal Shelter building is an illegal offense and is punishable by law. Any identified person or persons doing so will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. (See below.)

C. Penalties; Recovery
4:22-26. Acts constituting cruelty in general; penalty
A person who shall:
k. Abandon a maimed, sick, infirm or disabled animal or creature to die in a public place;
t. Abandon a domesticated animal;

Never surrender any pet to the HSOC without authorization. Do not bring a pet to the HSOC without telephoning first. Animal surrenders are by appointment only, with advance approval of the Shelter Manager. Please call the Shelter at (609) 399-2018 for approval before you consider surrendering your pet. Requests for surrender via answering machine messages, faxes, e-mail, or any other means will not be considered. You must request permission in advance in a direct conversation with the Shelter Manager or the Shelter Manager’s representative.

THE SHELTER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY ANIMAL BROUGHT TO THE SHELTER WITH OR WITHOUT ADVANCE NOTICE AND APPROVAL. PLEASE POLITELY CALL THE SHELTER FIRST AT (609) 399-2018 FOR PERMISSION. THANK YOU!
