Ocean City, NJ - July 05, 2010 – The Humane Society of Ocean City is holding free summer educational programs for children ages 3 – 13 beginning Tuesday, July 13. Classes will run every Tuesday @ 10am through August 14th and are conducted by NJ state certified elementary school teachers. Different guest speakers and topics will be covered so children may attend as many sessions as they wish. While the program is free, space is limited and reservations are suggested. The shelter suggests calling by 2pm on the day prior to the session you would like to attend. "Animal Crackers," is the program specifically for children ages 3 through 6 and covers basic pet care, story time, songs and a tour of the shelter. Children attending this class must be accompanied by an adult. "Pet Care 101," is designed for children ages 7 through 13 and focuses on pet care, basic pet communication, bite prevention, and education as to how a shelter works and why it plays such an important role in the community. It also includes a guided tour of the shelter as well as some hands on experience working at the facility. "These classes are a wonderful way to get children involved," said Bill Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the HSOC. He added "we get so many requests from children who would like to volunteer. This is a great way to get them involved until they’re old enough." At this time the shelter can only accept volunteers ages 16 and older. 2010 Summer Educational Program Guest 7/13 Service Dogs- Kona 7/20 Careers with Animals – Dr. Julie Moberg 7/27 Police Dogs- Deuce Ocean City K-9 8/3 Rescue Dogs 8/10 Small & Furry Animal Rescue The HSOC is a privately funded 501(c) 3 organization that relies on donations for support.
