Fall Fest and Alumni Day - Saturday, October 24th |
||
The Humane Society of Ocean City is holding its first annual Fall Fest and "Alumni" Day. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24 from 11am-3pm, and will be held in the shelter's parking lot at 1 Shelter Rd, in Ocean City. The shelter is holding the event, in part, so the public can see as many of the shelter's adopted animals as possible and to get updates from all of their adoptive families. The public is invited to attend and bring their canine companions. There will be carnival games, pumpkin decorating, and face painting for children. There will also be a baked good, mum, and pumpkin sale. There are several special events planned throughout the day including a demonstration from the Ocean City Fire Department with fire dogs Ash and Daytona. There will also be a demonstration with the Ocean City Police Department's Canine Unit, and Deuce the City's police dog along with a search and rescue demonstration. There will be games for dog's to participate in as well.. "We are always looking for ways to increase public awareness about animal adoption. Many people still believe you must go to a breeder or pet store to get a pure breed dog or puppy. At least half of all dogs adopted from the Humane Society of Ocean City are pure breeds. We hope that by having former adoptive families visit to share their adoption stories and show off their wonderful pets, that we can encourage the public to adopt pets instead of purchasing them," said Bill Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the shelter. The event is free to attend and more information is available at www.HSOCNJ.org or by calling the shelter at 609-399-2018. The Humane Society of Ocean City is open seven days a week from 11am-3pm for animal viewing and adoptions. The Humane Society of Ocean City is a private 501(c)3 non-profit organziation and relys on donations from the public. In 2008 the shelter placed over 200 animals in new adoptive homes, provided low-cost vet services to nearly 1000 animals and tripled the size of their Humane Education Community Outreach program. |
